Royal wedding

What a great day

We decorated…….

No opportunity was missed for patriotism.

We had a feast and watched on tv.

cupcakes

The things in paper were asparagus frittata cooked in prosciutto ham cases. Mum made them from this recipe in good food magazine. Highly recommended to accompany fizz. We also had coronation chicken in lettuce cups, pork pie, quiche and sausage rolls. I stopped short of sandwiches but we were after traditional British party

food

Here is the fridge “ before”. Its nothing like that now.

A great family day in which we made memories and celebrated being together and Britishness

Winner, hearts and flag

So sorry to keep you waiting but I’ve been taking advantage of some fine weather to get into the garden and prepare the veg beds for the new growing season.

Right the draw, drum roll pleaseIMG_0972

And the winner is……

 IMG_0974

Of Aussie Maria fame. As soon as you let me know where to send it, the bunny plus chocolate sweetie egg will be on its way to you. You can email me at the adress in my profile. Yay!!

Aside from gardening and chasing dust bunnies around, I have been hooking. A little late and inspired as always by blolgand I have made hearts for a bathroom garland which I have snuck in while my husband is away this week

I really love them but they need more stuff dangling from them. As you can see there is far too much wall on show. I got the pattern from June Gilbanks website. I think the shape is lovely.

I have also made this cushion. Now I really love this one. It was easy to make and quite quick too. I especially like the finish on the cushion as it looks professional (not blowing my own trumpet, the pattern is very profesh) The pattern can be purchased  from The Royal Sisters £3.78. I saw it a while ago but did nothing until I saw Amanda had made one and I had a serious case of the wanties.IMG_0961

I do like my union flags. It was while I was doing this that I made the square for Sibol.  I fancy making one in lots of bonny colours or maybe shades of grey. Hmmm

Huge welcome to all my new visitors by the way. Its so lovely to know you are there weather you want to say hi or not. I love to know that I am not alone.

Happy Wednesday

Lou

Mount youfoe

As requested my lovely friends, behold my shame………………..IMG_0144

Here are a selection of the latest ufo’s. My most spectacular ufo is as old as my son and I believe that the statute of limitations has passed on that one.IMG_0145

These are some finished christmassy things that just need to be put together into a thing or something.

IMG_0146

This is a yarn  eater cardigan  made for a friends baby, a bit fussy maybe. Just needs finishing. The baby is 2 so it wouldn’t fit her. I did finish another jacket so don’t go thinking I let babies shiver.

 IMG_0142

A toddler shrug for my niece ( she starts school soon) It has sequins and beads and is gorgeous. Only needs a cuff, more beads and buttons. Embarrassed about that one.

IMG_0143

This is some crewel work I did and want to make a cushion. I have the innards ready for it. Just need to do it. Hmmmmm…..

IMG_0141

There is also the union flag blankie, granny jacket, socks (they're hard), wavy scarf (nearly done how's yours Louise?), wavy bag, baby blanket ((more chilly babies), 2 Christmas table runners and Wavy Davey the bedroom blankie that I will tah dah soon and feel better about myself as I feel pretty ashamed just now. I’m off to stand in the corner, look sad and say doh.

Thinking bout Christmas

I think about Christmas a lot and do try to get a head start on things but this takes every biscuit in the barrel. Anyway I came across this site that organised an event for the whole of July.

I paid what turned out to be £20 (sterling) $42 Aus. For that I get a new project EVERY DAY. There has not been a single one that I haven’t wanted to do. The projects are mostly sewing (it is a quilting shop after all) but they are making Christmassy things from non Christmassy fabrics which I love. I wake up every morning thinking “I wonder what I will get today” So far there has been gift bags, ornaments for the tree, a hanging, a stocking, a table runner, a wreath and a tablemat for Santa's cookies and milk. I will be sure and show you anything I make.

 IMG_1632

This plus a few other distractions have meant not much hooky. I made the union flag as a paper pieced quilting exercise. I had never done it before but its quite effective if you can get your head around it. I want to make a cushion. You know the decorative kind and not one that you let your husband lounge on. After that I knocked up a frock (as we say up here in the North) because I couldn’t get one to fit my substantial bosom. Sorry, too much information but its a real problem. I am hoping that as I lose weight they might shrink. Sorry no pics yet but I will try to show you. I have not done dressmaking for  ages but needs must.

This is my so far granny jacket that I mentioned here. I cant decide weather I love it or hate it yet. I need to persevere with it. You start with a hexagon and both me and my friend Louise  could not for the life of us work out how the heck it folded into that shape. It just does, you just have to make it and it will. Unfortunately the outer rows take more than a 50g ball so I will have to get more yarn even though I bought enough . I will show you as I progress further .

Today I mopped until  I could mop no more then I hoovered and ironed so this afternoon I played. I have made a new project bag. I used a Sainsbury carrier for my pattern. The idea came from this site and was easy to follow  although the pocket for containing the bag is no good. My fabric is too bulky. I think I will crochet a pouch for it. Watch this space

Lovely Fridays and counting sleeps

Back in the workroom gain. It rained so I didn't feel guilty about playing.

Behold my latest purchase theese scrummy yummy fabrics from Fabric rehab which I came across while browsing on paper and string blog she does clearly warn you *warning* much money will be spent! and she wasn't wrong.

Other shopping I did. More buttons for the sweetie jar. (99p Morrisons ultimate bargain)

My fave shop Duttons for buttons. Well worth a visit if ever you come to Harrogate. Its so quirky and small but the staff are sooo helpful and friendly

I started on a cusion for my sons room. Worried it might be a bit girlie.

Finally I put the fire on because I was cold and spent the afternoon making this for my darling Neice who is about to go pop with excitement at being taken to Disneyland Paris next weekend. I have long had  a family reputation for deliberately and wontonly whipping children into a frenzy prior to big occasions. I regularly start to get my son thinking about Christmas just after he goes back to School in September!!!! Mind you My brother comes a close second at the whole excitement thing and will probably have done his bit too. You are allowed to count sleeps when there are 10 left. Minnie is to help the sleeps go quicker.

The pattern I used was one I got on etsy but modified. It ws orriginally to be a cupcake

So far so good

Here is the Flag so far. I got a bit fed up with it and decided to start agin in the new year but I have since become distracted by another blog and have started a scrap hex throw which I will show later.

Tuesday, 20 October 2009

Having just had a birthday and having bought some gorgeous new yarn from texere yarns I have started on making this union flag (not jack or it might get soggy) more pictures to come as it is taking while. I have decided that I make so much stuff and some of it is lovely that I might have a go t blogging. I need to stay with it so as not to get left behind. Face book didn't do it for me so maybe this will.
