Pin cushion tutorial

I trawled  the internet the other day because I needed a new pin cushion, the old one is a bit worn.

Would you believe that I came across a picture for a booby pincushion and a uterus one! No I am not going to show the link (I cant remember it) just Google uterus pin cushion, I bet its there.

An idea that did come up was for a handy ring pin cushion. Not only that but its an up cycled bottle top.

Here is how I made it

Punch 2 holes. I had a tool but a hot nail would do it. Be sure and hold it with pliers.

Put a bit of elastic through and knot it inside the top.

I cut out a3 inch circle of felt, gathered it with a running stitch, stuffed it with toy stuffing and tied it tightly.

I covered the top with ribbon, filled the top with hot glue and put the cake on the bottle top, decorated with a few more ribbons (cheeky CK ribbon)

A wooden bead and some coloured pins finish it off. This is a seriously handy pin cushion, its right where you want it while crocheting and so cute to wear. If you have a go let me see!!

Just to prove that it does happen  although I have played safe and gone for the private back garden option. As Louise said hooky in public gets all kinds of looks. Ali has done it on the lotty and Lucy confessed to beach beading. Hilarious girls!! Well I simply will not let this rest and am out to find fun places to do some and will report back.

I had my hook (no yarn though) with me while we were away at the weekend at My brother and sister in laws. LookIMG_1053 Hooky at the space museum in Leicester. My Dad made me the hook so its precious a 10mm jobbie ‘cos I couldn’t find big needles he’s since made me a 13mm one in ebony its soooo smooth I will show you it sometime. Anyway we had fab weather and an even better time. Thanks B and F and A!!

Big fish

Theres been a buzz about the Howe household my lovely and talented son Thomas was selected to take part in a rural arts session at school and look what he made!!!!! I love it sooooo much I have left it out in the dinning room so tht I can look at it. His name is Modok and can you believe he came home on the bus?!!
Its very me and I have been told that after being exhibited in the dining room gallery it will be going on permenant display in the workroom studios.

Any way his efforts have been recorded in the Knaresborough Post no less!!!

Proud and derranged Mummy moment over (for now)

On to the matter of hooky. I made this at the weekend, inspired by Valerie Whitten which I found on ravelry which I have mentioned is a great place for inspiration and I have several projects queued.

I made this one in Aran yarn. I'd never used it before. This coupled with a 6.5 hook meant that it worked up quickly. You basicly make 3 granny squares of the same size and join them folded over. I had the flowers and leaves in a box as I had been inspired by a blog that I read to manke a flower garland, but it never happened. So, i used them as I found that lovely though I thought it was the bag seemed flat.

I then lines it with denim so that my stuff wouldn't fall out. Finally there was only one thing to do and that was to stuff it with Cath Kidston and take a photo. Its quite hippy and the strap is very long and may stretch but I am a happy bunbun

A huge boob

Oh no its not what you think my friends. Although it did make you sit up and listen, admit it. The boob of which I speak is a mistake or a nearly one. I blogged the following pictures and then thought " what if she (Mum) sees them?" so I pulled them only to repost today because I am pleased with the results.

Its Mums birthday and she loves Cath Kidston so I sprinkled a little lou-lou magic over a wee scrap o' duck. I like it so much I will make another for me

This rapidly followed from a new book that I got recently, Quilt a Gift: 25 Heartfelt Projects from Quick to Heirloom Barri Sue Gaudet

Mum loved her presents. Score

Winning ways

If you've not been there and you like to hook take a lookie at Ravelry. Its a one stop place for all things needle. They've been going for ages but I only recently found them. Anyway they are running a winter olympics which I cheekily decided to enter at the last minute. A small project that ws dooable and here it is!!!

The young dude is making it look considerably cool. I made it up pattern wise and used this for the image.

Well I look today and it was mentioned at the podium as being a medal winner (along with everyone else)  but I am going to take all the good stuff that comes my way.
